The home town fans were very appreciative of the fine hitting performance provided by Johnson. He launched a rocket-shot out of the park for a Grand Slam homerun in the 3rd inning and slapped a one-base hit in the 5th inning. For the game Boston-AL out-hit Washington 15 to 12. The victory was credited to Johnson(1-1) who went 8 and 1/3 innings, allowing 8 runs. The losing pitcher was Jack Coombs(4-1). He was hit hard and gave up 10 hits and 4 walks in 3 and 2/3 innings.
