Roy Campanella had 3 base hits and 4 RBI as the Cleveland Indians topped the
Washington Nationals by a score of 9 to 7 at Griffith Stadium.

Washington was unable to climb back into it after Cleveland went ahead for
good in the 3rd inning scoring one runner using 2 hits. Washington tried
unsuccessfully to come back in the 9th.

Bob Lemon(4-1) allowed 6 runs in 8 innings, and picked up the victory. Jim
Hearn recorded his 6th save. Hal Newhouser(0-2) was the losing pitcher. He
allowed Cleveland 6 runs in 4 innings of work.

When questioned about the loss, Gordy Renaud said, 'The fans got to see an
exciting game out there this afternoon. Unfortunately, we couldn't get it
done this time. Next time, though, we'll be the clubhouse with all the
smiles.'
