Eddie Plank allowed Lee Palmer to rest his bullpen, tossing a complete game
and Shad Barry had 2 base hits and scored 3 times as the Chicago-NL Cubs
defeated the New York-NL Giants 6 to 5 at West Side Park.

Chicago-NL went ahead for good in the 7th inning plating one baserunner on 2
hits.  New York-NL threatened in the 9th but Chicago-NL was able to put down
the rally.  

Plank(1-0) picked up the complete game victory, allowing 5 runs. Jack
Powell(1-1) took the loss.  He allowed 6 runs and 9 hits in 6 and 1/3
innings.  

'It wasn't my best outing, but I'll take the win' Plank said.
