John Coleman had 4 hits and 4 RBI at Polo Diamond Grounds as the Philadelphia
Athletics, running on all cylinders, ripped the New York Metropolitans by a
large 29 to 7 margin.
Coleman was unconscious all day. The New York fans hated to see him
approaching the batter's box as he just kept delivering base hits! He lined a
single which scored a run in the 1st inning, tripled which brought home a run
in the 3rd inning, tripled in the 7th inning and tripled scoring a run in the
9th inning. Philadelphia bats were hot in the 8th inning which saw them
plate 7 runs on 6 hits and the 9th inning when they had 7 runs on 5 hits.
The Philadelphia offense smacked the New York pitching staff around, scoring
in 7 of the 9 innings.
The victory went to Billy Taylor(1-3) who went 8 innings, allowing 7 runs.
Buck Becannon(2-3) was the loser. He allowed 33 hits and 7 walks in 9
innings.
'It's just about getting in a good hitting position and just going out there
and being prepared,' Coleman said. 'You try to hit in your own capacity and
not do too much. I just try to have a good approach, day after day, game by
game, and pitch by pitch.'
