Johnny Mize was a thorn in the side of the hometown fans as he enjoyed a fine
day at their team's expense. He slapped a single in the 2nd inning, quieted
the crowd by clouting a Grand Slam in the 5th inning and hit a one-base hit
in the 8th inning. Washington had 17 hits for the night while Boston had 10.

Hal Newhouser(3-2) was the winner allowing 6 runs in 8 innings. Sheldon
Jones(1-4) was charged with the loss. He got hammered, allowing 11 hits and
3 walks in 5 and 2/3 innings.
