Al Spalding allowed Harry Wright to rest his bullpen, tossing a complete game
as the Boston Red Stockings defeated the Baltimore Canaries by the score of
14 to 8 at Newington Park.

Boston brought 6 runs across the plate in the top of the 7th inning with the
help of 3 hits. The crucial at-bat was provided by Harry Schafer who
deflated the crowd as he doubled scoring two baserunners. Even though they
scored in 5 different innings, Baltimore was not able to pull off the win.

The win went to Spalding(3-0) who allowed 8 runs in the game. Bobby
Mathews(1-1) took the loss. He gave up 14 runs in 9 innings and saw his ERA
jump from 1.00 to 2.50.
