Germany Smith slammed 3 homeruns and John Harkins had a complete game as the
Brooklyn Grays topped the New York Metropolitans by a score of 12 to 5 at
Washington Park.

Smith enjoyed a great day at the plate. Every time he came up in the latter
innings, the crowd was on their feet cheering. He smashed a solo-shot out of
the park in the 2nd inning, clubbed a solo home run in the 3rd inning and
smashed a bases-empty 'big-fly' in the 5th inning. The Brooklyn offense
man-handled the New York pitching staff as they scored in 7 of the 9 innings.

Harkins(2-2) finished the game allowing 5 runs in the victory. The losing
pitcher was Ed Bagley(2-3). He surrended 4 homeruns in his 8 innings.

'I just got in the box, looked for a pitch and swung,' Smith said. 'That's
it'
