First baseman Buck Freeman had 5 hits and 4 RBI as the Boston Americans
ballclub embarrassed the Philadelphia Athletics by the count of 20 to
5.
Freeman enjoyed a fine day at the plate. He tripled in the 3rd inning,
doubled plating two runs in the 5th inning, hit a single which plated a run
in the 5th inning, lined a base-hit which brought home a run in the 6th
inning and slapped a one-base hit in the 8th inning. Boston lit up the
scoreboard in the 1st inning when they had 5 runs on 4 hits and the 5th
inning with 13 runs on 9 hits. Overall Boston out-hit Philadelphia 20 to 10.
The victory was credited to Ted Lewis(1-0) who went 8 and 2/3 innings,
allowing 5 runs. Pete Loos(0-1) ended up with the loss. He had trouble
throwing strikes and issued 8 walks in 5 innings.
