The New York-AL Yankees nipped the Washington Nationals 4 to 3 at Griffith
Stadium in a hard fought contest.

In the 2nd inning New York-AL scored 2 runs with the help of 3 hits. Minnie
Minoso led off and started the rally when he doubled. After an out was
recorded, Carl Erskine came to bat and was hit by a pitch. Richie Ashburn
then banged out a single to load the bases. Billy Goodman stepped in and he
stroked a one-base hit, and an error was also committed, knocking home two
runners. Washington threatened in the 9th but their rally came up short.

Erskine(5-1) picked up the victory, allowing 3 runs in 8 innings. Satchel
Paige got the save, his 2nd. Murry Dickson(4-3) was the loser. He gave up 4
runs and 10 hits in 8 innings.
