WEB GEMS- Top 3rd: Philadelphia turns a triple play!
Bot 8th: Jack Doyle robbed Ed Delahanty of a base hit.

Les German went the distance as the New York Giants defeated the Philadelphia
Phillies by a score of 8 to 7 at Baker Bowl.

New York scored the decisive runs in a big top of the 8th inning with 2 runs
using 3 hits. General Stafford opened up the inning nicely when he stroked a
one-base hit. Eddie Burke came next and he laid down a sacrifice bunt. Pop
Schriver then slapped a base-hit. German was up next and he slapped a single
driving in a run. Shorty Fuller stepped into the box and reached on an error
scoring the final run of the inning. Philadelphia threatened in the 9th but
their rally came up short.

German(1-1) got the victory, allowing 7 runs for the game. Willie McGill(1-3)
was tagged with the loss. Arthur Irwin was subdued when questioned after the
game, 'Sure, this kind of loss takes a while to get over, but heck, we're all
professionals. We've been through this many times - it's the nature of the
game. We'll be fine - as for me - I'll be ready to go again tomorrow!'
