WEB GEMS- Bot 1st: Win Mercer robbed Hugh Duffy of a base hit.

It was an exciting day game in South End Grounds where the Boston Beaneaters
finally out-lasted the Washington Senators by a score of 12 to 11 in a 10
inning affair.

The score was knotted at 11 after nine innings. Boston won it in the 10th
inning. After an out was recorded, Tommy Tucker drew a walk. Jimmy Collins
was next to the plate, but was promptly struck out. Fred Tenney then drew a
walk. Charlie Ganzel followed and he doubled giving Boston the victory as
1,626 happy fans celebrated wildly. The Boston offense man-handled the
Washington pitching staff as they scored in 8 of the 10 innings.

The winning pitcher was Cozy Dolan(2-0) who allowed no runs in 1 inning. John
Malarkey(0-1) was hit with the loss in relief. He allowed 4 runs and 4 hits
in 1 and 2/3 innings.

In another of a string of victories, Boston extended their winning streak to 6
games. 'I'm glad to get the win', Dolan said. 'We've got some good momentum
going now.'
