Detroit Tigers broke the deadlock in their last at bats, pulling out a 6 to 5
win over the Boston-AL Americans and sending their hometown fans home
smiling.
The game was decided in the 9th inning. Frank Chance drew a walk. Johnny
Evers came next and he laid down a sacrifice bunt. Fielder Jones then was
walked intentionally. Chick Stahl followed and he drew a walk to load the
bases. One out later, Danny Hoffman stepped in and he banged out a single
giving Detroit the victory as 6,952 happy fans celebrated wildly. Detroit
finished with 9 hits in the victory.
Pat Carney(1-0) went 1 inning allowing 1 run for the win. Jesse Tannehill(2-3)
was tagged with the loss. He pitched 8 and 1/3 innings giving up 8 hits and
