WEB GEMS- Bot 5th: Jimmy Archer blocked the plate, saving a run!

In a startling finish the smoking-hot Chicago Cubs staged a comeback then held
on to win over the Pittsburgh Pirates by a score of 4 to 3 at Forbes
Field.

Chicago scored the decisive runs in a big 9th inning with 2 runs on 2 base

Schulte was up next and he hit a deep fly which scored a run. Joe Tinker
stepped into the box and ripped a one-base hit to load the bases. Solly
Hofman added to the rally and drew a walk scoring the final run of the
inning. Chicago had 9 hits for the afternoon.

Larry Cheney(3-1) got the win allowing 3 runs in 8 innings. Charlie Smith
earned his 1st save. Howie Camnitz(3-1) was tagged with the loss. He
allowed 9 hits and 4 walks in 9 innings.

Frank Chance was very happy after the game, 'It's great to come back and win
it in your last at bats! Our guys just wouldn't give up. And did you see the
fans - one minute they're laughing and screaming down all sorts of
unprintable stuff at our guys - the next minute - SILENCE! Yes sir, a very
enjoyable win this afternoon!'
