Right fielder Del Ennis smashed 3 homeruns as the New York-AL Yankees defeated
the ice-cold Washington Nationals 17 to 9 at Griffith Stadium.
Ennis provided much of the offense. He lined a base-hit which brought home a
run in the 1st inning, popped a two-run clout over the fence in the 3rd
inning, clubbed a solo home run in the 4th inning, emptied the bases with a
Grand Slam homerun in the 5th inning, smacked a single knocking in a run in
the 6th inning and doubled in the 8th inning. New York-AL provided plenty of
action in the 3rd inning when they had 5 runs on 6 hits and the 6th inning
which saw them plate 5 runs on 7 hits. Due to a poorly pitched ballgame,
scoring in 5 different innings was still not enough for Washington to come
away with the victory.
Sid Hudson(1-3) went 6 and 1/3 innings allowing 7 runs for the win. Ken
Raffensberger(3-3) was hit with the loss. He surrended 4 homeruns in his 5
and 1/3 innings.
