The score was knotted at 8 after nine innings. Cleveland came out the victor in the 10th inning. Ted Williams opened up the inning nicely when he doubled. Al Kaline came to the plate and was walked intentionally. Randy Jackson then laid down a sacrifice bunt. Willie Jones followed and he stroked a single which scored a run. Dick Groat came up to bat and worked the squeeze play to perfection giving Cleveland the win and sending the home town fans into a frenzy. Cleveland had 17 hits for the afternoon. Bob Feller(2-3) went 2/3 of an inning allowing no runs for the victory. Willard Schmidt(1-1) absorbed the loss in relief. He surrendered 3 runs and 3 hits in 1 and 1/3 innings.
