Pittsburgh won the game with a rally in the bottom of the 9th inning scoring 2 runs on 2 hits. Yogi Berra opened up the inning nicely when he delivered a single. Bobby Thomson struck out, unable to help the rally. One out later, Vernon then clubbed a two-run home run making Pittsburgh the victors to the delight of the home town faithful. Cincinnati was out-hit by Pittsburgh, 13 hits to 10. Chet Nichols(3-2) got credit for the victory, pitching 1 inning and allowing no runs. The loss was charged to Russ Meyer(1-1) in relief. Andy Spector was all smiles after the ballgame, 'It sure was looking pretty dim there for a while, but our guys never gave up - and neither did our fans - they kept cheering us on. What a sweet win!'
