Warren Spahn was able to finish what he started and was credited with a
complete game and Gus Bell cracked a homer and had 2 RBI as the Washington
Nationals topped the Philadelphia-NL Phillies by a score of 7 to 6 at
Griffith Stadium.

Washington scored 2 runs in the decisive bottom of the 5th inning when they
came up with 3 base hits.  The key at-bat was by Bell who made the crowd come
alive when he cleared the fences for a two-run home run.  The game was a wild
affair with the lead changing hands 6 times.  

The victory went to Spahn(5-6) who went the distance allowing 6 runs. Bobby
Shantz(2-2) was charged with the loss.  He was touched for 10 hits and 3
walks in 5 innings.
