Warren Spahn whiffed 10 batters as the Washington Nationals bested the New
York-AL Yankees 1 to 0 at Griffith Stadium.

Spahn(4-6) simply dominated New York-AL.  He allowed just 5 hits and 2 walks
in 9 innings lowering his ERA from 3.91 to 3.49.  New York-AL threatened in
the 9th but Washington was able to put down the rally.  

Gerry Staley(3-3) suffered the loss.  It was a tough loss for him as he did
not allow an earned run in his 8 innings of work.  

'Everything felt great' Spahn said. 'I had a good fastball, I felt I could
throw it by everybody today.'
