In a good matchup it was the Washington Nationals 10, the Pittsburgh Pirates 8
at Griffith Stadium.

Washington brought 6 runs across the plate in the 4th inning with the help of
4 hits.  The critical plate appearance was by Gus Bell who brought a roar
from the partisan Griffith Stadium fans when he launched a Grand Slam
homerun.  Washington and Pittsburgh each finished the afternoon with 12 hits.

The win went to Murry Dickson(4-3) who allowed 4 runs in 7 and 1/3 innings.
Fritz Dorish recorded the save, his 4th.  Bob Friend(3-2) was hit with the
loss.  He allowed a few too many baserunners giving up 7 hits and 2 walks in
4 and 1/3 innings.
