Tom Vickery pitched a complete game as the Philadelphia Phillies defeated the
Boston Beaneaters in 10 innings 5 to 4 at Baseball Grounds.

The game was deadlocked at 3 after nine full innings. Finally, Philadelphia
pulled the game out in the 10th inning. After an out was recorded, Billy
Hamilton got things rolling when he lined a base-hit. Al Myers stepped up to
the plate and he reached on an error. Myers then ripped a base-knock which
scored a run. Harry Wright then called for a steal which was successful.
Sam Thompson came up to bat and stroked a single making Philadelphia the
victor and beginning a joyous home town celebration. The score went
back-and-forth with the lead changing 5 times.

The win was credited to Vickery(4-0) who went the whole way allowing 4 runs.
Kid Nichols(3-1) was given the loss. 'It wasn't my best outing, but I'll
take the win' Vickery said.
