Sid Gordon launched 3 homeruns and had 7 RBI at Forbes Field as the New York
Yankees embarrassed the Pittsburgh Pirates by the lopsided score of 17 to
4.

Gordon was really in 'the zone'. He cracked a two-run shot in the 2nd inning,
blasted a two-run home run in the 4th inning, lifted one out of the park for
a two run home run in the 5th inning and doubled which brought home a run in
the 7th inning. New York provided plenty of action in the 1st inning with 6
runs on 5 hits and the 7th inning which saw them plate 4 runs on 5 hits. New
York had many opportunities throughout the game and scored in 6 separate
innings.

Vern Bickford(3-0) allowed 4 runs in 6 innings, and picked up the victory. Ken
Raffensberger preserved the game for Bickford, recording his his 1st save.
Ellis Kinder(3-3) suffered the loss.

'It's almost like the ball was trying to hit my bat,' Gordon said. 'Whenever I
would swing, the ball found the sweet spot.'
