The Philadelphia-NL Phillies edged the Cincinnati Reds at Shibe Park by the
score of 3 to 2.

Philadelphia-NL tallied 2 runs in the bottom of the 3rd inning with the help
of 3 hits. Phil Rizzuto led off and he laced a base-knock. Curt Simmons
followed next and he laid down a sacrifice bunt. Nellie Fox then banged out
a single resulting in a run. After another out, Stan Musial came up and he
delivered a single. Al Rosen came up to bat and reached on an error scoring
the final run of the inning. Cincinnati had a chance in the 9th but they
came up short.

Simmons(3-0) went 6 and 2/3 innings allowing 1 run for the win. Simmons was
helped out by Harvey Haddix who recorded his 3rd save. Ken
Raffensberger(2-2) was the losing pitcher. He allowed just 2 runs and 3 hits
in 6 innings.

Rob Hickok was subdued when questioned after the game, 'Sure, this kind of
loss takes a while to get over, but heck, we're all professionals. We've
been through this many times - it's the nature of the game. We'll be fine -
as for me - I'll be ready to go again tomorrow!'
