2,572 fans watched an exciting game at Forbes Field. The Chicago Cubs topped
the Pittsburgh Pirates by the slimmest of margins, 3 to 2.

Chicago tallied 2 runs in the top of the 6th inning. The critical plate
appearance was by Fritz Mollwitz who quieted the home crowd when he smacked a
single bringing in two baserunners. Pittsburgh threatened in the 9th but
their rally came up short.

The win was credited to Larry Cheney(3-3) who went 7 and 1/3 innings allowing
2 runs. Cheney was helped out by Zip Zabel who recorded his 2nd save. Babe
Adams(2-3) was the loser. He pitched 9 innings allowing 6 hits and 2
walks.

'It was a tough one to lose' said Fred Clarke 'We'll get them next time out.'
