Stephens was unconscious all day. The Pittsburgh fans hated to see him approaching the batter's box as he just kept delivering base hits! He lofted a solo-blast 'downtown' in the 4th inning, lofted a three-run bomb in the 4th inning, stroked a one-base hit in the 6th inning and lashed a single bringing in a run in the 7th inning. Washington totaled 18 hits on the afternoon. Feller(3-3) lasted until the end allowing 4 runs for the win. Eddie Lopat(0-5) suffered the loss. By surrending 10 runs in 6 innings his ERA jumped from 5.27 to 5.55. 'I felt great out there today,' Stephens said, 'Maybe I should make a regular habit of getting to bed on time!'
