Mike Garcia tossed a complete game shutout as the Philadelphia-AL Athletics
defeated the Chicago-NL Cubs 5 to 0 at Wrigely Field.
Garcia(2-1) was very good in the win. He surrendered only 6 hits and 3 walks
in 9 innings seeing his ERA drop from 2.70 to 2.08. The pitchers took over
after the 4th inning as neither team was able to score again.
Whitey Ford(2-4) was given the loss. He was hit hard and gave up 15 hits and
4 walks in 5 and 1/3 innings.
