Sam Leever went the distance as the Boston-NL Beaneaters outscored the
Philadelphia-NL Phillies 8 to 2.

Philadelphia-NL was unable to recover after Boston-NL went ahead in the top of
the 2nd inning plating one baserunner utilizing 2 base hits.  Charlie Hickman
doubled.  Two outs later Frank Bowerman stepped in and he banged out a single
scoring the run.  Boston-NL rapped out 15 hits for the afternoon.  

The winning pitcher was Leever(4-1) who allowed 2 runs for the game. Bob
Rhoads(2-3) absorbed the loss.  He surrendered 4 runs and 7 hits in 5
innings.
