Pete Alexander completed the game without help from the bullpen as the New
York-NL Giants defeated the Philadelphia-AL Athletics 7 to 5 at Polo
Grounds.
New York-NL had the winning rally in the bottom of the 8th inning plating 3
runs on 4 base hits. Nixey Callahan kicked off the action when he slapped a
base-hit. Alexander next to the plate and he doubled. Bob Bescher then
lashed a single resulting in a run. Dots Miller was up next and he ripped a
one-base hit plating one more runner. Ty Cobb stepped into the box and hit a
deep fly scoring the final run of the inning. New York-NL rapped out 15 hits
for the afternoon.
The win went to Alexander(7-1) who allowed 5 runs in the game. Lefty
Leifield(5-3) was the losing pitcher. His ERA increased from 4.12 to 4.48 as
he allowed 6 runs in 7 innings.
