WEB GEMS- Bot 3rd: Ted Kluszewski robbed Allie Reynolds of a base hit.

Second baseman Hank Thompson went deep as the streaking New York Yankees
defeated the ice-cold Pittsburgh Pirates in 10 innings by the score of 3 to 1
at Forbes Field.

Both teams had scored 1 runs after nine full innings. New York ended up
winning it in the 10th inning. Thompson jump-started the scoring when he
lofted a solo-blast 'downtown'. Two outs later Marv Rickert came up and he
ripped a base-hit, and an error was also committed. Ted Kluszewski then
singled scoring the final run of the inning. Both teams finished the game
with 10 hits.

Ted Gray(2-1) was the winner allowing no runs in 2 and 1/3 innings. Eddie
Erautt(1-1) was given the loss in relief. New York extended their winning
streak to 7 games. Andy Spector was upset but philosophical about the loss.
'Sometimes you run into a team that's on a roll. This was one of those
times.'
