Eddie Stanky had 3 base hits and 2 RBI at Yankee Stadium as the Boston-AL Red
Sox beat the New York-AL Yankees in 10 innings 9 to 7.
Both teams had scored 7 runs after nine full innings. Boston-AL won the game
in the 10th inning. After an out was recorded, Ted Williams jump-started the
rally as he doubled. Joe Tipton came to the plate and slapped a base-hit
knocking in a run. Busby stole second with some aggressive base running.
One out later, Dave Philley stepped up to the plate and he drew a walk.
Eddie Waitkus stepped into the box and ripped a one-base hit scoring the
final run of the inning. The game was a wild affair with the lead changing
hands 5 times.
Joe Presko(4-3) went 1 inning allowing no runs for the win. Mel Queen recorded
the save, his 5th. Ted Wilks(1-3) was charged with the loss in relief.
