topped the Washington Nationals by the slimmest of margins, 4 to 3.

Preacher Roe(2-3) gave Cincinnati a solid outing.  He went 8 innings allowing
11 hits and 2 walks.  Washington threatened in the 9th but Cincinnati was
able to put down the rally.  

Frank Hiller was credited with his 1st save. Don Newcombe(0-4) was the loser.
He pitched 9 innings giving up 4 hits and 5 walks.

Cincinnati now has a record of 12-12.  Washington continued their losing ways
