Eddie Yost slammed a homerun and had 2 RBI and Willie Ramsdell delivered 3 and
one third solid innings at Shibe Park as the Chicago-NL Cubs won in dramatic
fashion coming back to beat the Philadelphia-AL Athletics by the count of 10
to 8.
Chicago-NL had the winning rally in the 9th inning plating 3 runs on 3 hits.
Elmer Valo led off and got things going when he drew a walk. Dom Dimaggio
stepped up next and he ripped a base-knock. Solly Hemus then belted a
three-run homer. Overall Chicago-NL out-hit Philadelphia-AL 14 to 9.
Marv Grissom(1-0) went 1 inning allowing no runs for the win. Grissom was
helped out by Eddie Yuhas who recorded his 3rd save. The loss was charged to
Fritz Dorish(0-2) in relief.
Dorish was feeling apologetic in the locker room, 'I sure let that one get
away. What a miserable feeling to let the guys down; and our fans. One
minute things are looking great, then. BOOM, it's over with! I just hope I
get a chance to redeem myself real soon!'
