Milt Whitehead had 5 hits and 3 RBI and Charlie Hodnett threw a 3 hit shutout
as the sizzling St. Louis Maroons destroyed the ice-cold Washington Nationals
by a score of 25 to 0 at Union Grounds.

Whitehead provided much of the offense. He stroked a one-base hit in the 2nd
inning, doubled in the 3rd inning, singled bringing in a run in the 4th
inning, stroked a base-hit which brought home a run in the 5th inning and
doubled which scored a run in the 7th inning. St. Louis lit up the
scoreboard in the 2nd inning which saw them plate 5 runs on 5 hits, the 4th
inning with 4 runs on 5 hits, the 5th inning which saw them score 4 runs on 3
hits, the 6th inning when they had 4 runs on 5 hits and the 7th inning which
saw them score 4 runs on 3 hits. The St. Louis offense was as consistent as
it was powerful. They scored in every inning, making a joke of the
Washington pitching.

Hodnett(5-0) was credited with the shutout. Milo Lockwood(1-5) was the loser.
He was knocked around pretty good, giving up 25 runs in 8 innings.

'Hodnett was the man today,' Fred Dunlap said. 'He had just about every pitch
working.'
