At Exposition Park, the Pittsburgh fans witnessed a great pitcher's duel.
Casey Patten(3-4) finally bested his Washington opposite, Deacon
Phillippe(1-2), by the score of 2 to 1.

Pittsburgh started with a bang, jumping out to an early lead in their half of
the first plating 2 runs on 4 base hits. After an out was recorded, Roy
Thomas started the attack as he slapped a single. Sam Crawford came to the
plate and doubled scoring a single run. Harry Davis then ripped a one-base
hit scoring the final run of the inning. That was all Patten needed.
Washington had a chance to come back in the 9th but they came up short.

Patten got help from Clark Griffith who earned his 2nd save. Phillippe
absorbed the loss. Pittsburgh extended their winning streak to 9 games.
