Marquard(2-1) was virtually untouchable. He didn't give up much, just 4 hits and 1 walk in 9 innings lowering his ERA from 1.69 to 1.26. The left-handed Marquard had his no-hit bid broken up by George Moriarty who doubled with one out in the 6th inning. Washington threatened in the 9th but St. Louis-AL was able to put down the rally. Hooks Wiltse(3-2) suffered the loss. He gave up just 1 run and 4 hits in 7 innings. 'When Marquard is on like that it is a tough game to play, no doubt about it,' Gordon Renaud said. 'He always pitches well against us.'
