WEB GEMS- Bot 4th: Fred Clarke robbed Jimmy Austin of an extra base hit.

In an great finish the St. Louis-AL Browns won in dramatic fashion over the
Washington Nationals by a score of 4 to 3 at Sportsman'S Park.

St. Louis-AL had the winning rally in the bottom of the 9th inning plating 3
runs using 4 hits. Rudy Hulswitt led off and started the rally when he
doubled. Jimmy Austin came next and he laced a one-base hit driving in a
run. Austin was safe on a stolen base. Earle Gardner followed and he ripped
a single. St. Louis-AL continued their aggressive style with another stolen
base. Clyde Milan continued the rally and laced a base-knock, and an error
was also committed, resulting in an exciting win for St. Louis-AL and a wild
post-game celebration by the home town fans. St. Louis-AL finished with 11
hits while Washington ended up with 8.

The victory went to Addie Joss(2-5) who went 2 and 1/3 innings, allowing 1
run. Smoky Joe Wood(2-3) suffered the loss in relief. Joss and Milan were
really whooping it up in the clubhouse after the great come from behind
victory. As Tim Singer noted, 'A win like this one can do wonders for a
team's attitude.' Everyone shares in the joy - the fans, the players - even
you guys - it's better than winning by a dozen runs!'
