Cincinnati took the lead off Bill Dinneen in the first inning with 3 runs utilizing 5 base hits. Jimmy Sheckard kicked off the action when he drew a walk. Sheckard got a great jump and stole second easily. After an out was recorded, Jimmy Barrett then laced a base-hit. Cincinnati continued their aggressive style with another stolen base. Sam Mertes stepped into the box and banged out a single driving in a run. Charlie Babb continued the rally and stroked a one-base hit. Johnny Kling next to the plate and he slapped a base-hit driving in one more runner. Ed Gremminger then hit a single scoring the final run of the inning. That early scoring held up.
