John Malarkey allowed Doug Hatch to rest his bullpen, tossing a complete game
at Palace Of The Fans as the Cincinnati Reds beat the St. Louis-NL Cardinals
7 to 2.

Cincinnati took the lead off Bill Dinneen in the first inning with 3 runs
utilizing 5 base hits. Jimmy Sheckard kicked off the action when he drew a
walk. Sheckard got a great jump and stole second easily. After an out was
recorded, Jimmy Barrett then laced a base-hit. Cincinnati continued their
aggressive style with another stolen base. Sam Mertes stepped into the box
and banged out a single driving in a run. Charlie Babb continued the rally
and stroked a one-base hit. Johnny Kling next to the plate and he slapped a
base-hit driving in one more runner. Ed Gremminger then hit a single scoring
the final run of the inning. That early scoring held up. Cincinnati totaled
9 hits on the afternoon.

Malarkey(6-1) lasted until the end allowing 2 runs for the win. The loss was
charged to Dinneen(5-1). He saw his ERA jump from 2.35 to 2.63 as gave up 7
runs in 8 innings.
