With the hometown crowd on the edge of their seats, New York-NL Giants came
from behind to top Brooklyn Dodgers, 5 to 4.
New York-NL won the game with a rally in the 9th inning scoring 2 runs. After
two were out Alex McCarthy began the rally when he reached on an error. Ty
Cobb stepped up next and he cleared the fences for a two-run home run making
New York-NL the victor and beginning a joyous home town celebration. New
York-NL won despite being out-hit by Brooklyn 8 hits to 3.
Herb Pennock(1-0) got the win allowing no runs in 1 and 2/3 innings. Tom
Seaton(2-1) ended up with the loss in relief. He was the victim of a
defensive lapse and did not allow an earned run in the game.
'Now there is a lesson in perseverance for you,' Honus Wagner noted. 'It was
looking pretty dim there for a while, but we just kept plugging away and it
really paid off in spades! And it was great to see the crowd go crazy there
at the end!'
