Wally Westlake had 4 hits and 2 RBI at Yankee Stadium as the Boston Red Sox
beat the New York Yankees by the count of 8 to 4.

New York fell behind quickly as the Boston offense came through in the first
inning scoring 3 runs using 5 hits. After an out was recorded, Lou Boudreau
jump-started the rally as he tripled. Ted Williams followed and he popped a
two-run clout over the fence. Westlake then ripped a single. Al Zarilla
followed next and he slapped a single. Elbie Fletcher stepped into the box
and banged out a single scoring the final run of the inning. New York had a
chance to come back in the 9th but they came up short.

Rex Barney(1-1) got the win allowing 2 runs in 5 and 2/3 innings. Tommy Byrne
recorded his 1st save. Joe Coleman(3-2) was given the loss. Boston knocked
him around a bit, as he gave up 6 runs in 4 innings.

'We just made a lot of mistakes, mostly mental,' Robert Baker said. 'It's bad
enough when the other team beats you, but when you start beating yourselves,
that's really bad.'
