George Bradley allowed just 2 hits as the St. Louis Brown Stockings won a
dandy at Grand Avenue Park over the Louisville Grays, 2 to 1.
St. Louis won the game with a run in the 9th inning. John Clapp stroked a
single. After an out was recorded, Lip Pike came to bat and tripled
resulting in an exciting win for St. Louis and a raucous post-game
celebration by the home town fans. St. Louis finished with 7 hits in the
victory.
The winning pitcher was Bradley(6-2) who allowed 1 run for the game. Jim
Devlin(3-5) was tagged with the loss. Jack Chapman lamented, 'Bradley was
really aggressive today. He kept coming after our hitters. Heck, why not.
he kept sitting our guys down one after another - like so many bowling pins!'
