Huyler Westervelt pitched a complete game as the New York Giants defeated the
Washington Senators by the score of 12 to 5 at Polo Grounds.

New York took the lead for good in the bottom of the 2nd inning scoring 4
runners on 4 hits.  The critical plate appearance was by Monte Ward who
elicited a roar from the hometown fans when he stroked a base-hit bringing
home two baserunners.  New York totaled 15 hits on the afternoon.

Westervelt(2-3) picked up the complete game victory, allowing 5 runs. Charlie
Petty(2-3) absorbed the loss.  By giving up 12 runs in 7 and 1/3 innings his
ERA increased from 5.19 to 6.21.
