First baseman Jake Beckley had 3 base hits and Cy Young completed the game without help from the bullpen as the Philadelphia-AL Athletics rallied impressively to win in dramatic style over Boston-AL Americans, 6 to 5. Philadelphia-AL won the game with a rally in the 9th inning when they came up with 5 runs on 5 hits. The critical plate appearance was by Freddy Parent who deflated the spirits of the home town crowd when he tripled bringing home two baserunners. Boston-AL proved to be no trouble in the bottom of the 9th. The victory went to Young(5-2) who went the distance allowing 5 runs. Wiley Piatt(0-2) was given the loss in relief. He was unable to retire a batter giving up 1 hit and no walks. After the game, it took a long while before Elliott McKinley emerged from his office. In a subdued tone he answered only a couple of questions. He concluded with, 'Fellows, sorry I'm not in a very talkative mood this afternoon, as I think you'll understand. I'm sure you'll find the banter a lot more light-hearted over in the Philadelphia-AL locker room.'
