Robin Roberts had a strong outing as the New York-AL Yankees bested the
Philadelphia-NL Phillies 4 to 1 at Yankee Stadium.
New York-AL tallied 3 runs in the bottom of the 4th inning when they came up
with 3 base hits. The key at-bat was by Andy Seminick who brought the crowd
to their feet when he smashed a two-run homer. Both teams' bats went to
sleep after the 4th inning with no runs scored after that point.
The win went to Roberts(4-5) who allowed 1 run in the game. Curt Simmons(3-1)
absorbed the loss. He pitched 7 innings giving up 9 hits and 1 walk.
Roy Purchell was obviously impressed with the pitching of Roberts, 'That guy
made us look a little silly out there this afternoon. We just couldn't get
to him at all - everything was working for him. I just hope that he got that
kinda performance out of his system.'
