WEB GEMS- Bot 3rd: Connie Mack blocked the plate, saving a run!

Frank Gilmore pitched a complete game at Athletic Park as the Washington
Nationals won in dramatic fashion coming back to beat the Indianapolis
Hoosiers by the count of 12 to 11.

Washington came up with the deciding runs in the top of the 9th inning with 3
runs on 2 base hits. George Shoch opened up the inning nicely when he laced
a base-knock, and an error was also committed. Walt Wilmot next to the plate
and he reached on an error plating a run. Billy O'Brien then reached on an
error. Al Myers came up and he doubled scoring another run. One out later,
Connie Mack came to bat and hit a sacrifice fly scoring the final run of the
inning. Indianapolis had 18 hits in the game while Washington had 9, but
Washington had the more timely hits.

Gilmore(2-1) got the victory, allowing 11 runs for the game. Sam Moffet(0-3)
absorbed the loss. Washington knocked him around a bit, as he gave up 12
runs in 9 innings.

'We just kept swinging the bats and didn't give up,' Shoch said. 'If you just
keep trying good things can happen!'
