Tommy Leach had 4 hits and 2 RBI and Chief Bender had a complete game as the
St. Louis-NL Cardinals defeated the Cincinnati Reds by a score of 9 to 4 at
Palace Of The Fans.

Cincinnati was unable to climb back into it after St. Louis-NL went ahead for
good in the top of the 3rd inning plating 3 runs on 4 hits. After an out was
recorded, Bender began the rally when he slapped a base-hit. Harry Bay
stepped into the batter's box and he ripped a single. Leach then delivered a
single to load the bases. Patsy Dougherty stepped in and he delivered a
one-base hit plating two runs. Dougherty took second on the throw. Danny
Murphy came to the plate and would ground out scoring the final run of the
inning. St. Louis-NL managed 15 hits in their victory.

The win was credited to Bender(1-2) who went the whole way allowing 4 runs. Ed
Siever(5-6) was the losing pitcher. He was knocked around pretty good,
giving up 7 runs in 3 and 2/3 innings.
