TEAM RISP- Pirates: 6 for 17 Phillies: 4 for 14

2,101 fans were treated to a fine game at Baker Bowl as only one run separated
the combatants at game's end. The Pittsburgh Pirates won by the slimmest of
margins, 7 to 6.

Deacon Phillippe(4-2) pitched well enough to earn the win. He went 8 and 1/3
innings surrendering 15 hits and no walks. Philadelphia threatened in the
9th but their rally came up short.

Phillippe got help from Mike Lynch who earned his 2nd save. Ralph
Caldwell(0-3) absorbed the loss. He surrendered 7 runs and 13 hits in 9
innings.

'I always am most impressed when a pitcher finds a way to win even without his
best stuff,' Pittsburgh's manager said after the game. 'Phillippe did not
have command of his pitches most of the afternoon, but he proved he really
knew how to pitch!'
