Chuck Stobbs went the distance as the Chicago-NL Cubs defeated the Pittsburgh
Pirates by a score of 5 to 4 at Forbes Field.

Chicago-NL took the lead for good in the 6th inning plating one baserunner on
2 hits.  Carl Furillo doubled.  Joe Astroth followed and he ripped a
base-knock scoring the run.  Pittsburgh was retired without difficulty in the
bottom of the 9th.  

The victory was credited to Stobbs(5-0) who went the distance, allowing 4
runs. Early Wynn(2-2) took the loss.  He gave up 9 hits and 3 walks in 7
innings.
