Stan Lopata had 4 hits as the Brooklyn Dodgers bested the Cincinnati Reds 6 to
5 at Crosley Field.

Brooklyn jumped out to the early lead in the first inning plating an isolated
run utilizing 2 base hits. Bill Tuttle took matters into his own hands and
smashed a bases-empty 'big-fly'. Cincinnati tried unsuccessfully to come
back in the 9th.

Bobby Shantz(1-1) went 5 and 1/3 innings allowing 4 runs for the victory. Ray
Narleski recorded his 11th save. Joe Nuxhall(3-4) was the loser. He
surrended 3 homeruns in his 6 innings.

'We lose our concentration for one pitch, and we lose the game.' Rob Hickok
said after the game. 'Maybe now these guys will listen when I say they have
to concentrate on EVERY pitch.'
