It was a great finish at Yankee Stadium as the New York-AL Yankees pulled off
a dramatic comeback beating the Washington Nationals by the count of 5 to
4.

New York-AL came through with the game-winning runs in the bottom of the 9th
inning scoring 2 runs using 4 hits.  After an out was recorded, Smoky Burgess
got things rolling when he smacked a single.  Minnie Minoso came next and he
laced a one-base hit.  Sammy White then lashed a single knocking in a run.
White took second on the throw.  One out later, Richie Ashburn came to the
plate and stroked a base-hit resulting in an exciting win for New York-AL and
a raucous post-game celebration by the home town fans.  New York-AL managed
11 hits in their victory.  

The victory went to Jack Meyer(3-2) who went 1 inning, allowing 1 run. Don
Newcombe(4-1) was hit with the loss.  He pitched 8 and 1/3 innings allowing
10 hits and 1 walk.
