Boston never recovered after Chicago took the lead in the 5th inning scoring a single run using 2 hits. Jimmy Ryan ripped a one-base hit. Jimmy Cooney came next and he grounded into a double play. Dahlen then smashed a solo-shot out of the park. Boston had a chance to come back in the 9th but they came up short. Hutchison(5-4) lasted until the end allowing 4 runs for the win. John Clarkson(6-1) was the loser. He pitched 8 innings giving up 10 hits and no walks. 'He gutted it out' Cap Anson said of Hutchison. 'I was very impressed by his tenacity.'
