Tom Hughes reeled off a total of 13 strikeouts as the Boston Braves defeated
the St. Louis Cardinals 3 to 1 at Braves Field.

Hughes(7-0) came through with a virtuoso performance against the St. Louis
hitters. He didn't allow much, just 5 hits and 3 walks in 9 innings. The
game was a scoreless duel until the 7th inning.

Slim Sallee(2-4) took the loss. The Boston fans were thrilled by the
performance put forth by Hughes, but it was clearly his strikeouts that they
enjoyed most. 'When he reached 10 strikeouts the fans showed him their
appreciation with a loud cheer.' George Stallings said following the game.
